Your first toy (no blushing required)

Buying your first toy is a bit like adopting a pet: exciting, slightly nerve-racking, and best done with a little research. Good news: nobody is judging, and the only wrong answer is not asking.

1. Start with what you fancy. Do you like external buzzing, internal fullness, or both? A bullet or clitoral teaser is a gentle start for external fun. A classic vibrator or rabbit adds an internal part. Not sure? Pick small and simple; you can always upgrade.

2. Check the material. Look for body-safe materials such as silicone, and avoid anything vague like “mystery jelly”. Our guide to body-safe materials explains why it matters.

3. Think about power and noise. Rechargeable is kinder to your wallet and the planet. If walls are thin, look for “quiet” in the description, and remember that a pillow is a free silencer.

4. Add lube. Always. It makes everything comfier, and the right type depends on the toy. Our free Lube Match tool will tell you in 30 seconds.

5. Go slowly. Lowest setting first, stop if anything hurts, and wash it before and after (see our cleaning guide).

Still torn? Pop us a message and we will happily point you the right way, no judgement and no blushing.

Care note: this is general information, not medical advice. If something hurts or you have a health concern, speak to a doctor or pharmacist.
